ACES Basic Course (Gleneden Beach)

ACES Basic (Gleneden Beach, Oregon)

Lincoln County Auxiliary Communications Service is sponsoring a Basic class in Lincoln County.  The course is open to any interested ham radio operator.  This course will be at the Gleneden Beach Fire Station, 6445 Gleneden Beach Loop, Gleneden Beach Oregon in the Training room at the back of the building.  This course is ideal for new licensees who are interested in emergency communications.  The course is a mixture of classroom delivery and hands on practice with radio programming, message handling, and required ICS forms.  Students must bring a handheld VHF radio, manual for the radio, and charger.  A headset or earphone is encouraged for ease of message passing.  Successful completion of a multiple choice test as well as demonstration of the learned skills is required to pass the class.  ICS-100, ICS-200 and ICS-700 are required prior to receiving a certificate, though you may take the course without completing the ICS courses.  Pre-registration is required.  The cost for the course is $25 and includes the student workbook and all needed materials.  The course will run from 0800 to 1800 both Saturday and Sunday with a small homework assignment on Saturday night.  Drinks and Snacks will be provided.  If you have any questions or special needs, please contact Daron N7HQR

146.780 Repeater is down

Update: Ice took out the antenna. Plan is to install a temporary in the near future, with a permanent fix when the weather improves.

The 146.78 repeater on Marys Peak went down sometime before Christmas Day. The cause will not be known until the responsible personnel are able to get to the site. The repeater is owned by Benton County ARES, and provides coverage over most of the Willamette Valley and much of the central coast. The nightly WOVEN net (7:30 pm each evening) will continue when possible on the 146.72 machine on Prairie Peak, but will be sporadic, as it is not reachable by several of the net controls.

ARES Update

The following is an update on Oregon Section Emergency Management and the Oregon Emergency Management Amateur Radio Unit released today by Oregon Section Manager Everett Curry W6ABM:

August 11 meeting

For the August Club Meeting we are going to meet at the pakt on the north end of the Yaquina Bay bridge at 6PM. Actually some of us will be there very early to insure that we get the park benches. Bring a desert or snack. We discussed this yesterday at “pie” and decided not to do a full picnic. Many will have already had dinner by then. But, if you need food, don’t hesitate to bring your own meal. We will have an HF rig set up and operating. Bring your hand held radios. Also bring your family and friends.

Any questions? More to follow.

P.S. Bring warm clothes – even at 75 degrees it was chilly in the shade and wind.
